Hakata Beach next to Marine Oasis Hakata, with the Hakata-Oshima Bridge

This is Part 2 of my tour of the filming locations of “You, Like a Star” (Nanji, Hoshi no Gotoku, a Japanese film released in October 2026), and this time it is the islands.
I visited Omishima, Hakatajima and Oshima.

How to get the guidebook and the three places in the town centre are in Part 1.

There are seven stamp spots on the islands.
I went round five of them in one day, and left Nakoma and Noshima Suigun for next time because I ran out of time.

The order I went in, and a note about cars

From Imabari, the nearest island is Oshima, then Hakatajima, then Omishima.
This time I went straight to the farthest one, Omishima, and worked my way back.

I arrived at Oyamazumi Shrine at 10:30 in the morning, and left the cafe on Oshima a little before 15:00.

If you drive, you leave the expressway at each island.
If you cycle, the bridges are free to cross (see the article on Shimanami Kaido tolls).

Oyamazumi Shrine: the shrine where a big hit was prayed for

The main gate of Oyamazumi Shrine

Oyamazumi Shrine on Omishima is not a filming location.
It is the shrine where the director and the two leads prayed for the film to be a big hit, and it is one of the stamp rally spots.

It had been a while since my last visit, and the great camphor tree and the other trees give the grounds such a sacred air that I felt very calm.

The great camphor tree in the grounds of Oyamazumi Shrine

The great camphor tree in the middle of the grounds is a sacred tree said to be 2,600 years old.
The grove of camphor trees around it is a national natural monument.

Walking around slowly takes about an hour.

I did not go into the treasure hall this time.
It holds armour and weapons that are national treasures and important cultural properties, so I am saving it for next time.

The amulet office of Oyamazumi Shrine, with the vending machine at the far right

The stamp is at the far right of the amulet office, where they hand out charms and the like, next to a vending machine.
You can stamp between 9:00 and 17:00.

The same office also gives out a goshuin (a stamp and brush-written calligraphy that shows you have visited a shrine) commemorating the film’s release.

Lawson: the scene where they share ice cream

The exterior of Lawson Imabari Omishima-cho Miyaura

The Lawson is a short walk from the shrine, close enough to see it.
It is the shop in the scene where the two get off the bus and share an ice cream.

There is a large car park in front of the shop.

The ice cream scene takes place in front of this tourist map sign for Omishima.

The stamp is beside the register, and you can stamp at any hour, 24 hours a day.
Inside, there is a small eat-in space with room for about three people.

Hyahho-zaka: the slope where the bus runs

Hyahho-zaka, the slope that runs down towards the sea

About 15 minutes by car from Oyamazumi Shrine, on the other side of the island, there is a road that drops steeply towards the sea.
It is the slope in the scene where the bus carrying the two runs, and it is called Hyahho-zaka.

There is nothing around the slope, so you either drive straight through or park by the shore at the bottom and walk back up to take photos.
It is not a busy road, but people live along it, so please do not stand in the road to take pictures.

Marine Oasis Hakata: the first spot on the stamp rally

The building and car park of the Marine Oasis Hakata roadside station

Back on Hakatajima, Marine Oasis Hakata is a roadside station at the foot of the Hakata-Oshima Bridge.
It is the first spot on the stamp rally.

It was Sunday lunchtime and the place was full of people, and it felt like a base for cyclists and motorbike riders.
There is a canteen inside and lots of souvenirs.

The stamp is at the register.
You can stamp during the shop’s hours, 9:00 to 17:00, but it is closed on New Year’s Day and on its winter closing days.

Right next to it is Hakata Beach, and the sea is lovely.
Beyond the white sand you can see the Hakata-Oshima Bridge.

Shimanami High School, Hakata Campus: the school the two attend

Shimanami High School, Hakata branch, seen from the road along the sea

A short drive along the coast from the roadside station is the Hakata Campus of Shimanami High School (the Hakata branch of Imabari Nishi High School), which was filmed as the school the two attend.
It is by the sea, and very quiet.

The school building of the Hakata branch seen from the junction with the traffic lights

It has the kind of atmosphere that makes you think how nice it must be to go to school on an island.
It is a school, so you cannot go onto the grounds.

Miyakubo Fishing Port: where Honoka is given fish

The buildings and sea at Miyakubo Fishing Port on Oshima

Crossing to Oshima, the next stop is Miyakubo Fishing Port.
The scene where Honoka is given fish by a fisherman was shot here.

It is a working area for the fishermen’s cooperative, so you can only look from outside.
Right next to it is the Suigun Restaurant of Noshima Suigun, which is one of the stamp rally spots.

It was full at lunchtime, so if you want to eat there it seems better to book.
The stamp is beside the menu board inside, and on closed days it is set out on the left of the front entrance.

I ran out of time here, so that stamp will wait until next time.

Tomoura Site: Toko’s house

The entrance arch of Tomoura Site, decorated with lemons

From Miyakubo, a mountain road called Lemon Street climbs through mikan and lemon groves, and in the middle of them is Tomoura Site, a cafe with a red roof.
In the film, it was shot inside as Toko’s house.

The day I went was the one day of the year when they hold an event, so I could not go inside.
The photo looks lively, but usually it is a quiet cafe open from 12:00 to 16:00, Wednesday to Sunday.

The stamp is usually kept at the roadside next to the entrance arch, and you can stamp even on closed days.
On the day I went, it was set out next to the event headquarters.

The car park is diagonally across the road to the left, as you face the entrance.

Cafe Shozan: Toko’s shop “YU-NAGI”

A blueberry muffin and coffee set at Cafe Shozan

The last stop was Cafe Shozan, a cafe by the sea with a view that looks even better in photos.
In the film, it appears as the shop that Toko runs, “YU-NAGI”.

I ordered the muffin set.
It is a homemade muffin with coffee for 800 yen, and the blueberry muffin was crisp and fluffy and delicious.

Looking around, many people had ordered the cake set.
It comes with two small cakes, ice cream and a drink for 1,000 yen, which is a very good deal.

The inside of Cafe Shozan, surrounded by bookshelves

The inside is lined with books, and the view of the sea from the window is the best.
It was a relaxing break.

A cloth with the name of the shop from the film, displayed in Cafe Shozan

Around the stamp are photos and autographs from the shoot, and there was also a cloth with the name of the shop in the film.
Even if people are waiting for a table, you can go in just to stamp.

The exterior of Cafe Shozan and the deck facing the sea

It is open from 10:00 to 16:00, and closed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
On closed days the stamp is set out in front of the entrance.

If the car park in front of the shop is full, there is a second car park a little way off.

The sea spreading out in front of Cafe Shozan

I plan to write about this shop in more detail in a separate article.

Nakoma Beach and Noshima Suigun are for next time

Nakoma Beach is the usual stretch of sand where the two sit and talk, looking at the sea.
Minshuku Nakoma, right in front of the beach, is known locally for its fish dishes, and the stamp is kept there.

It is on the other side of Oshima and I ran out of time, so I will go again together with Noshima Suigun.
With the five on the islands and the three in the town centre, I now have eight stamps.

About four hours for five places on the islands

I arrived at Oyamazumi Shrine at 10:30 in the morning and left Cafe Shozan a little before 15:00.
That is about four hours, including time at the cafe.

You can enter the stamp rally prize draw with five or more stamps, so you can enter by going round only the islands.
For the shops’ stamps, I recommend buying something or having a meal as well, as a way of saying thank you.

If you are planning the days before and after your island trip, have a look at the guide to Imabari for Shimanami cyclists.

Questions people ask

Can I go round without a car? The bridges are free to cross by bicycle, but each island is some distance from the next.
By car, you leave the expressway at each island.

Can I see all seven places on the islands in one day? I went round five in one day and it took about four hours, including time at the cafe.
I ran out of time for Nakoma and Noshima Suigun, so I will go again.

Can I stamp on a closed day? At Cafe Shozan, Tomoura Site, Noshima Suigun and Minshuku Nakoma the stamp is set out outside on closed days.
The Lawson is open 24 hours, and Oyamazumi Shrine and Marine Oasis Hakata are during their opening hours.

Can I go inside the school? No, it is a school, so you cannot go onto the grounds.
Please look quietly from outside.

What about the three places in the town centre? They are in Part 1, together with how to get the guidebook.
